Maria Ahmad was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. She is a Canadian-British writer and filmmaker. Maria has lived across Canada, the UK, the UAE, and Pakistan, which is reflected in her exploration of heritage, culture, and the diaspora. She holds a BA (Hons) in Creative Writing and Music, with a personal focus on Gothic Literature and Ethnomusicology.

Maria aims to bring authentic stories and representation to screen whilst crafting psychologically layered narratives that examine identity, emotional realities, and social perception. Inviting viewers into unsettling yet intimate worlds where the familiar is challenged. Her upcoming projects include Glint (2025) and Dum (2026).
